This alert is no longer active: Don't Exempt Factory Farms from the Law!

Please visit for other ways you can help protect our environment.

Once again, the factory farm industry is trying to get Congress to exempt factory farms from right-to-know reporting and other provisions of the Superfund law (also known as CERCLA). These laws are designed to protect the public from hazardous waste, and to hold companies accountable for pollution violations. This exemption for factory farms would take away one of the few tools people have to stop the horrible pollution that these facilities can cause.

There has never been a single hearing on this in Congress, yet this exemption may well be added to an appropriations bill behind closed doors, with no one knowing about it until it is too late.  Protect public health and the environment by contacting the conference committees on agriculture and interior appropriations bills and telling them to reject these dangerous exemptions!
