Tell the Senate to RECALL Nancy Nord

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is supposed to protect us from dangerous products. But Chairwoman Nancy Nord seems more interested in protecting industry profits. While parents were in panic over the lead paint on their children's toys, what was Nord doing? Traveling - on the dime of the very industries she is supposed to be regulating.

Nord is part of a larger problem with the CPSC being systematically gutted by lack of funding and staffed with industry-friendly political appointees. She is also opposed to a bill pending in the Senate to strengthen the authority of CPSC to protect the public.

The CPSC Reform Act of 2007 would more than double the agency's funding, give it new powers to punish those who sell dangerous products and offer protection to government whistleblowers who courageously report wrongdoing within the agency.

I am writing to you to demand that Nancy Nord resign and that the CPSC Reform Act of 2007 be passed with additional reforms to prohibit staff of the Consumer Product Safety Commission from accepting industry-sponsored travel. While news of lead-tainted toys made the headlines, it was revealed that Nancy Nord, the Chairwoman of the CPSC, has been going on lavish trips paid for by the industries she is supposed to be regulating. In addition, she also opposes the CPSC Reform Act of 2007, which would strengthen that agency to better protect consumers. Ms. Nord obviously has a pro-industry bias, which compromises the mission of the agency and the safety of our products. I also urge you to support the CPSC Reform Act of 2007. The bill already has strong reforms including, increasing the agency's funding, giving new powers to punish those who sell dangerous products and offering protection to government whistleblowers who courageously report wrongdoing within the agency. Please also support an amendment that would ban privately funded travel for all staff of the CPSC. I thank you for your time and eagerly await your response. Thank you.
