Get Virginia Out of Hot Water

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has reissued a water permit to Dominion that allows them to increase the temperature of Lake Anna without limitations

The Water Permit:

Legally defines the water that Dominion dumps directly into as "private", despite its obvious public use.

Defines the water as "private", which exempts Dominion from the regulations detailed in the U.S. Clean Water Act.

Allows Dominion to heat the receiving water without regulation.

Allows Dominion to treat the receiving water like a sewage treatment facility

Current Water Quality Issues Associated with Heat Impacts at Lake Anna:

The human brain eating amoeba (naegleria fowleri) which thrives in hot water was found in both main reservoir and cooling lagoons in the summer of 2007.

Elevated water temperatures contributed to a major clam die-off in 2007.

The State Health Commissioner issued a fish consumption advisory in August of 2007 due to high PCB's.
