Demand the Return of the Records to the Public

February 09, 2010 Subject: Dear Senator, I am writing to urge you to help get the Presidential Records Act Amendments of 2007, bill number S. 886/H.R. 1255, on the floor for a vote. Senator Jeff Sessions is blocking the bill unnecessarily. This bill would return the presidential records to the people by revoking President Bush’s 2001 Executive Order that allows current and former presidents to keep presidential records secret indefinitely. The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee reported S. 886 favorably months ago, and the House version of the bill already passed with a veto-proof majority. It is unfair that a single senator can hold up consideration of legislation that will allow the American people to know the full record of this administration, as well as past and future administrations.
