Stop Inappropriate Use of Taxpayer Funds

On Thursday, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Energy and Water Development will hear Secretary of Energy, Steven Chu defend his departments budget request.  The Department of Energy's budget request includes a $36 billion handout to the nuclear industry.  The request would triple the current controversial nuclear loan guarantee program from $18 billion to $54 billion.

Historically, nuclear power has gotten one of the biggest pieces of the subsidy pie.  A technology that is prohibitively expensive, inherently dangerous and produces tons of radioactive waste every year should not receive more massive government subsidies.

Please send the below letter to your Senator asking him/her to oppose the expansion of the taxpayer-backed nuclear loan guarantee program.  As always feel free to edit the letter to reflect any additional concerns you have.

Thank you!
