Tell your members of Congress to sign the Voters First Pledge

As a voter and believer in democracy, I am sick and tired of reading about scandalous acts by members of Congress who accept travel and favors from wealthy special interests. It is time to act to protect our democracy. The Voters First Pledge is the best way to show voters that you care about the harmful impact of corruption and greed in politics. The Voters First Pledge asks that you support policies to make elections fair, restore accountability, and protect voters’ right-to-know. Effective and fair laws establishing voluntary public funding for elections are already on the books in several states. Also needed are measures implementing meaningful restriction on gifts and travel from lobbyists and internet disclosure on lobbyists’ fundraising activities. A voluntary system of public funding for elections means that ordinary voters, rather than only the wealthy, are critical in gathering support. It is a vaccine for a political system sick with the illness of special interest money. Voters agree. A June 2006 bipartisan poll found that seventy-four percent of voters support public funding for elections and that this support crosses party lines.
