Stop a Lame Duck Vote on Off-shore Drilling
Oil companies lost on election day but are now trying to win in the Lame-Duck Congress. Since August, legislation that would open large portions of America's Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) to new oil and natural gas drilling has languished in Congress. But politicians from both parties are seriously considering reviving this oil company giveaway during the lame-duck session. That would be bad for the environment but great for oil company profits.
Opening coastal waters to new drilling will only feed our addiction and won't appreciably reduce our reliance on foreign sources of oil. It's the oil companies that will be enhanced by drilling -- enhanced with huge profits! Tell your elected officials to remove drilling from the agenda and stop pandering to the oil companies which contributed $14.3 million to campaigns in this election cycle.
