Fight Citizens United on Your Campus
End Corporate Personhood and Establish That Money Is Not Speech
In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission that corporations have a “right” to spend unlimited money influencing elections. Spending by corporations and the ultra-wealthy has flooded our elections with unprecedented amounts of money, much of it secret. The control of our elections by the ultra-wealthy is not only destructive to our democracy, but it hurts the environment, workers’ rights, civil rights, our healthcare, women’s issues and more.
The national movement to overturn Citizens United is gaining momentum. 16 states have called for a constitutional amendment to overturn the ruling; nearly 500 local municipalities and over 130 members of Congress have called for an amendment.
Students on at least seven campuses have passed resolutions calling for an amendment. Make your college/university next!
