Celebrate First Batch of Solar for Austin and Help Get Second Batch Authorized

Tell the Austin City Council You Want 600 MW of Affordable Solar

The Austin City Council authorized Austin Energy to contract for up to 300 megawatts of solar on October 1. That’s great news, but it’s especially exciting because the contracts will be at some of the lowest prices ever seen.

Authorization for the additional contracts to bring the total up to 600 megawatts has been postponed until October 15. Austin Energy has been directed to negotiate with the solar companies to get the best possible prices and we are hopeful that they will succeed in getting the prices in the second batch of contracts close to the phenomenal prices in the first batch. The prices were already very affordable though. Austin Energy customers will benefit from lower bills with these long-term investments.

The City Council is under a lot of pressure from Austin Energy to reject the second batch of solar contracts. Please help us show them that the community doesn’t share that view.
