Last Chance to Stop Texas Anti-Wind Legislation

The Texas House of Representatives is set to vote on an anti-wind bill that serves absolutely no purpose. The bill sponsors are saying that military bases need protection from wind farms, but the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) already has a mandatory process to ensure bases operations won’t be impacted.

"Due to the wide variety of missions and the variability of impacts on different types of obstructions, it is not possible to apply a 'one-size-fits-all' standoff distance between DoD military readiness activities and development projects." - The DoD Clearinghouse in a March 2015 report to Congress

The Texas wind industry is creating thousands of jobs and bringing much-needed revenue to rural landowners and school districts. Senate Bill 277 would put those benefits out of reach of about 10 percent of Texas land — for no purpose. 28 percent of existing Texas wind farms are within the proposed buffer zone of 25 nautical miles and aren’t causing problems for military operations.
