(Click to RSVP) Agenda - Short 10 minute film showing, "The Story of Citizens United vs FEC" - Presentation by Nickie Antonio, Ohio House of Representatives (District 13) - Questions, answers and discussion The program commemorates the 3rd anniversary of the Citizens United vs Federal Elections Commission U.S. Supreme Court decision, which granted corporations and unions greater constitutional rights and powers to spend money in elections. The result was a dramatic increase of money spent in the 2012 elections — most of it coming from wealthy individuals and corporations — much of it secret. The program will also explore passing a local resolution or ballot initiative (similar to what 200+ other communities have already done) calling on Congress to enact a constitutional amendment declaring: * Only human beings, not corporations, are legal persons with Constitutional rights, and * Money is not equivalent to speech, and therefore, regulating political contributions and spending does not equate to limiting political speech.
