Milwaukee MLK Rally

MLK Day Jus­tice Pro­gram and March MOVE TO AMEND WILL HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE SPEAKING ABOUT THE MILITARY-INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX at the 2:30 rally at MLK statue. (Share the Face­book event here.) “The great­est pur­veyor of vio­lence in the world — my own gov­ern­ment. I can­not be silent.” –MLK 1:00 pm: Indoor Pro­gram com­mem­o­rat­ing Dr. King’s call to con­front racism, mil­i­tarism, poverty and eco­nomic injus­tice. SPeak­ers George Mar­tin, Fred Reed and Derek Williams’ Aunt Lashanda Shumpert. Per­form­ing artists Dorothy Jack­son, Fred Reed, Andre Lee Ellis and Jahmes Fin­layson. Hon­or­ing the work of Felmers Chaney, League of Young Vot­ers and grass­roots groups work­ing to end poverty. 2:30 pm: March to the Dr. King Statue (MLK Drive, 1 block north of Wal­nut. Open mic to reflect on Dr. King’s message.) Sponsored by the Mil­wau­kee Jus­tice Coalition. On January 19, 2013, and the days surrounding it, join us to unite two powerful messages calling for a more just and democratic nation. First, to honor MLK Day, demand the right for everyone to vote without obstruction. Second, to protest the Citizens United ruling on its third anniversary, join the nationwide call to get big money out of politics and enact free and fair elections in America.
