The Chamber of Commerce Hates It!
The Trade Reform, Accountability, Development and Employment (TRADE) Act is making waves on Capitol Hill. Not only has it earned the support of 131 members of the House of Representatives, but we've learned it's now on the hit list of the top corporate lobby group, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
That's right, the Chamber of Commerce, the club of top corporate culprits like Wal-Mart, Bank of America and others that support the failed NAFTA/WTO trade model, is scared enough of the TRADE Act that they're trying to sink it! They're on a mission to halt the bill's impressive momentum, including by spreading misinformation about the TRADE Act. But with your help, we won't let them get away with it.
Write your senators and representative today to discover if they stand with the Chamber of Commerce for more job- and environment-killing trade policies; urge them to stand up for us and replace the failed model by cosponsoring the TRADE Act!
Just last week, Senator Sherrod Brown introduced the Senate version of the TRADE Act (S. 2821). This legislation makes clear that Congress is in line with the American public's expectation that the Obama administration deliver on the President's many campaign commitments for real trade reform. But the Chamber wants to block any change - and instead is gearing up a major campaign to revive new expansions of the old, devastating NAFTA/WTO trade model.
As you know, unemployment rates have shot past ten percent. The U.S. has lost over 5 million good manufacturing jobs since NAFTA/WTO. The earth's climate is maxed-out, and hundreds of millions go hungry under NAFTA/WTO style food trade policies.
But the Chamber of Commerce wants more of the same.
The economic crisis has made clear that we can't afford more NAFTA and WTO style trade deals. We need a new trade policy that creates jobs, ensures the safety of imported food and products, and fixes past damaging agreements.
Be sure your members of Congress don't fall for the Chamber's deceptions about the TRADE Act. Ask them to become a cosponsor today!
Thanks for all that you do,
