Not My Patch - A Public Citizen Project Public Citizen Not My Patch

About Public Citizen

Public Citizen is a national, nonprofit consumer advocacy organization founded in 1971 to represent consumer interests in Congress, the executive branch and the courts.

Public Citizen fights for:

  • Democratic accountability in government

  • Legal rights for consumers

  • Clean, safe and sustainable energy sources

  • Social and economic justice in trade policies

  • Strong health, safety and environmental protections

  • Safe, effective and affordable prescription drugs and health care

The Health Research Group is the oldest of the six groups. Its small staff of physicians, pharmacists and a pharmacologist work together to ban or relabel unsafe or ineffective drugs and medical devices, improve safety standards at work sites, and educate consumers about the health care services. The group hosts, authors and maintains the website WorstPills.org, which provides consumers with information about over 500 prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

Unlike many nonprofit organizations, Public Citizen does not accept any funds from corporations, professional associations or government agencies. Instead, it relies solely on the donations of its members. This allows PC to remain independent and follow the truth wherever it may lead.
