Tell Ford to Clean Up its Act

According to a report from InfluenceMap, the auto industry spent $49 million lobbying in 2017, the highest amount since 2008.

Lobbying by the industry — including Ford Motor Company — has a real effect on policy. The lobbying already has persuaded the Trump administration to begin rolling back clean car standards, standards that would save consumers money at the pump and ratchet down emissions from the single largest source of carbon pollution in the country.

Shareholders know that much of Ford’s power comes from undisclosed political spending, which is why they’ve filed shareholder resolutions asking the company to be upfront about its political spending.

Sign the petition today to tell Ford to stop polluting our politics and our planet.

We’ll deliver the petitions next week to Ford’s World Headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.

Dear Ford:

Thanks to the clean car standards, Americans like me are saving money at the pump, breathing cleaner air and starting to ratchet down emissions from the single largest source of carbon pollution in the country.

In 2012, you committed to meet and uphold these standards. And your chairman Bill Ford has championed the company’s commitment to tackle climate change for future generations.

That’s why I am disturbed to see you and other automakers working with the Trump administration to undo these critical safeguards and failing to disclose the money you spend in secret to block critical progress on climate change.

Ford can’t claim to be a responsible company while it lobbies — often in the shadows — to drive us backward.

Please drop any efforts to delay, weaken or block the clean car standards. Seize the opportunity. Go forward, not backward!

Sincerely,
